Originally established as the Border Cities Jr. B Hockey League in the 1950′s, the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League
was officially founded in 1970 when the bottom half of the league divided to become a Junior C league, leaving the top half as the areas Jr B loop.
The GLJHL has grown into one of Southwestern Ontario’s best development league’s, annually producing players who move on to Jr.B, the OHL, NCAA, and even the National Hockey League. Currently, the Great Lakes League features nine teams:

- Wheatley Sharks
- Blenheim Blades
- Belle River Canadiens
- Mooretown Flags
- Kingsville Comets
- Essex 73s
- Alvinston Flyers
